Spring 2014 Transfer Fair

Let’s go, sunshine! Jamestown Community College held its second transfer fair of the spring 2014 semester on Wednesday, April 16, 2014. And by second, we really mean first, because the original first one shouldn’t count (oh below-zero blizzard, we don’t miss you).

We had some great institutions of higher education attend and share their programs and features with us. If you are interested in any of the programs below, contact the person listed and take the next step in pursuing your educational goals!

Clarion University of Pennsylvania (website)

At a glance:
~100 degree programs, more than 6,100 students

Although Clarion University of Pennsylvania offers a few graduate programs, their primary focus is on undergrads. With a student-faculty ratio of 19-to-1, you’ll get personal instruction and a real chance to connect with your professors. Clarion also boasts an excellent academic profile.

D’Youville College, located in Buffalo, New York, features a variety of degrees at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels, as well as combined bachelor and master programs. The college boasts a powerful healthcare field with extremely high placement rates. Great D’Youville College’s programs include nursing, physician assistant, occupational therapy, and physical therapy.

Edinboro College is located in Edinboro, PA (a little farther than Erie). Edinboro offers associate, bachelor, and master degrees in a wide range of majors. The college has an extremely comprehensive transfer process, and everyone is ready and willing to help students make a smooth transition. Some of Edinboro’s top programs are art, criminal justice, and business.

At a glance: over 30 academic programs, +36,000 students

Excelsior College has physical locations in Albany, NY and Washington, DC. However, students don’t need to worry about long-distance traveling: Excelsior is an entirely online college founded by the NYS Board of Regents to support nontraditional students. Excelsior offers associate, bachelor, and master programs. The college is home to the largest nursing school in the country. Other top programs include liberal arts and nuclear engineering technology.

Gannon University thrives in downtown Erie, PA, and offers students associate, bachelor, graduate, pre-professional, and doctoral degrees. Students can expect a great student:teacher ratio and a tight knit community focusing on interaction. Gannon offers strong programs in health sciences, engineering, and business.

Hilbert College is located in suburban Hamburg, NY, minutes from Buffalo, and offers associate, bachelor, and master degrees. Hilbert has a very generous, flexible credit transfer policy, and many students enter with 45 to 60 credits completed. The college’s top programs include criminal justice, business, and psychology/counseling.

Houghton College is in Houghton, NY, 65 miles southeast of Buffalo. Students can pursue bachelor, master, dual-degree, and professional programs. Houghton welcomes its students with small classes, a close knit campus, and Christ-centered atmosphere. Students are drawn to Houghton’s biology (pre-med), communication, and intercultural studies programs.

Johnson & Wales University offers four distinct campuses, one each in Providence, RI, North Miami, FL, Denver, CO, and Charlotte, NC. Keuka College is located in Keuka Park, NY, in the Finger Lakes region. Students can pursue bachelor, master, and pre-professional degrees. Keuka boasts a field period internship program, which is completed every year that a student is on campus. This program helps students decide if they are in the program they want as a career. It is also great for resumes, networking, and often opens doors to job opportunities. Top programs include business, occupational therapy, and education.

Mansfield University is located in Mansfield, PA, 170 miles east of Jamestown and just over the PA border. Mansfield offers associate, bachelor, and graduate degrees. The university is very transfer-friendly, and offers students individualized advisement and a generous credit transfer policy. Top programs include music, criminal justice, and biology: fisheries.

SUNY Oswego is in Oswego, NY, about 220 miles northeast of Jamestown. The college offers undergraduate, graduate, and cooperative degree programs. SUNY Oswego offers a great atmosphere for the large transfer student body. Resources include a transfer-specific office, mentor program, and honors fraternity. Some of SUNY Oswego’s top programs are education, health sciences, and media arts.

Thiel College is located in Greenville, PA, about an hour and a half north of Pittsburgh in western Pennsylvania. an exclusively undergraduate institution, Thiel is especially known for its small school atmosphere and the high degree of interaction students are able to experience with their professor. Internship opportunities are encouraged, and they also boast a large alumni network.

The University at Buffalo offers an easy transfer experience for JCC students, allowing them to stay within the SUNY system. In addition to the breadth of academic programs one can major in at UB, the university also emphasizes experiential learning. Thanks to its “Finish in 4” program, UB also helps keep your education affordable.

University of Pittsburgh Bradford (UPB) is located in Bradford, PA, right on the border of New York and Pennsylvania in the western part of the state. They offer a friendly, welcoming small school atmosphere in a safe environment. JCC already has several transfer articulation agreements with UPB, in fields ranging from accounting to writing. Some of their most popular programs include nursing and criminal justice.
