My Semi-Terrifying but in the End Fantastic Road to JCC

Hello! I’m Connor Charles and I am a student in the Honors Program at Jamestown Community College. I graduated from Olean High School in 2012, and I live with my parents and my younger brother. At JCC I am currently majoring in individual studies and I then plan transfer to St. Bonaventure to major in education. In the future I hope to be a kindergarten teacher, but honestly I would be happy teaching anything.

I chose JCC for several reasons, the most important being:

  1. It’s close by to my parents
  2. I had great experiences with the professors
  3. It’s a small school with great opportunities
  4. I received the USA Scholarship

JCC was the first college that I applied to and the first acceptance letter I got. When it came in the mail I was SO excited (I never get any mail!)

The weeks leading up to my first day of college I was incredibly scared. I wasn’t sure what to expect being a full-time college student. I was worried that I wouldn’t fit in, but it is the total opposite. To help fit in on campus, I decided to get involved. I’m a tutor at the Learning Center, secretary on Student Senate, and a member of the Honors Program.

I have enjoyed every minute of my first semester here at JCC and can’t wait to see what the spring holds!

About the author

Hi, my name is Connor and I’m currently a freshman in the honors program at Jamestown Community College-Cattaraugus County Campus. I work on campus at the Learning Assistance and Computer Center as a tutor. I tend to tutor English most of the time. I chose JCC for many reasons! JCC offered me a great scholarship (since I graduated in the top 20% of my high school class, I was eligible for the USA Scholarship) and it was the perfect size school for me. There is not an overwhelming amount of people but there are enough that I meet someone new nearly every day.
