“In Every Job that Must be Done, There is an Element of Fun.”

My job has truly been a blessing.

As much as I dream of becoming Tiana, which I clearly cannot do, or becoming a step sister, I would not trade my Stands East family for anything. They have made my time here very magical. I knew that I would be meeting people from around the country, and the world, but I never would have figured that we would become so close. I know now that it is definitely hard to come home and say goodbye to all my new friends. They truly make my job as a CM (Cast Member) even more enjoyable than the guests do.

Also as CMs, we are encouraged to go and play in the parks on our days off. This is to 1) be able to give guests good directions when trying to find something and good recommendations for food and rides and 2) to just have fun! When we say, “Welcome home” to a guest, we mean it. This place has truly become my home.

When we get to go out and play, there are instances where we can get involved with fun things. Things like Dapper Day.

Now, when I first came here, I had no idea how many things go on here at Walt Disney World, Dapper Day being one of them. One of my coworkers asked me if I was going and what I was going to wear. I just stood there confused because I had never heard of Dapper Day before. However, it is a very big deal here.

The definition of dapper (according to the all-knowing Google) is: “neat and trim in dress, appearance, or bearing.” And this isn’t just for CMs; it is for any and all guests who come to the parks. Each park has a different day that you can go and be dapper, but I’ve only gone to Magic Kingdom’s Dapper Day.

There is also something that a lot of the people that participate in Dapper Day do, and that is Disney Bounding. That is where you base your Dapper Day outfit, or any outfit really, on a Disney character. Now, some guests and cast members, planning months in advance, really go all out for this day. I, not knowing that this day existed until a week before, made due with a lovely trip to Walmart.

And again, since I cannot be Tiana, I thought I might as well be Charlotte, her best friend. I even found my Tiana while waiting in line to ride the Ferry Boat with the other Dapper Day dapper people.

It was truly a day well spent in the Magic Kingdom. However, I did have to work that day and I was asked to start early. But it was quite a lot of fun.

About the author

Claudia Neu

My name is Claudia Neu, and I live in Cuba, NY. I'm studying early childhood education here at Jamestown Community College, and I'm going to be an intern in the Disney College Program. I first found out about the program in high school, when my family and I went on our first Disney vacation in 2011 and I talked with one of the workers. Fast forward to my second week of the fall 2014 semester at JCC: I saw the poster to contact Felix Muzza if you were interested in an internship with Disney. It was fate! I believe everything happens for a reason. The reason for my attendance at JCC: Disney! I'm ready to delve into Disney's role in my life, as well as the role I'm about to play. I also really want to share what I do day-to-day, how I work behind the scenes for such a large company, and to just have fun. Stay tuned to learn more about all the fun and work I will be doing! Enjoy yourself and learn something new with me as we explore the most magical place on Earth: Disney!
